The Rise Up program at Newman Senior High School aims to empower students, encouraging them to use their voices to strengthen school culture, advocate for change, and introduce new ideas and initiatives – making the Student Council a vital voice within the school.
To help School Council candidates gain a thorough understanding of their duties and the significance of their role, Rise Up Newman has collaborated with partners at Hedland Senior High School, integrating important aspects from their Student Council selection process.

These updates have led to a council that balances returning and new student leaders. Four senior students participated in the McClements Leadership Camp, and the council now includes students from Year 7 to Year 12, combining experience with fresh perspectives. With this diversity, the 2026 Student Council is uniquely positioned to influence school culture positively and foster meaningful change.
“Through the Rise Up Program it has really helped me to curate personal skills such as public speaking, team management and my confidence”. Year 12 student, School Captain
The school actively promotes pride in student leadership, motivating students to confidently represent themselves, their peer group, and the broader school community.
