Through the BHP Pilbara Education Partnership Early Years Strategy, families participating in Early Learning Programs across Port Hedland and Newman recently had the opportunity to access free ear health screenings delivered by Hearing Australia.

31 children were screened, with several referrals made for follow-up appointments with General Practitioners or Child Health Nurses. Many parents expressed their appreciation for the service, noting that independent screenings through Hearing Australia often involve wait times and a cost.
Hearing Australia shared their enthusiasm for the collaboration, thanking the Early Years team for their coordination. Discussions are underway regarding future visitations to the Early Learning Programs from 2026.

The Early Years program aims to enhance children’s readiness for school by connecting families with essential health services and supporting early intervention in areas of developmental concern. This recent partnership with Hearing Australia demonstrates the powerful outcomes that can be achieved through collaboration and community focus.
