A central focus of the BHP Pilbara Education Partnership Early Learning Program is to increase parents’, caregivers’, and families’ awareness of childhood developmental milestones, supporting children’s readiness for the transition from the Early Learning Program to Kindergarten.
Families have reported that having the Early Learning Program located on school grounds has been instrumental in preparing their children for school. The program helps children become familiar with the school environment, learn classroom routines, and benefit from a learning space that fosters social and emotional skill development.
Parents and caregivers have praised the Early Learning Program Coordinators for their expertise in developmental milestones and for being a valuable resource when addressing questions or concerns about their child’s development. The coordinator has also been effective in connecting families with necessary services when developmental delays are identified. For example, at Port Hedland Primary School, three families sought speech therapy for their children after consultations with their Early Learning Program coordinator.
One caregiver shared that their child is now eager to attend kindergarten orientation due to positive experiences at the Early Learning Program. The program’s engaging and educational activities have led to significant growth, particularly in their child’s fine motor skills.
Children who attend the Early Learning Program are better prepared for the transition to kindergarten, setting them up for a successful start to their school journey.
