At Newman Senior High School, the Pathways Program, supported by the BHP Pilbara Education Program, is focused on building a strong career development culture and embedding sustainable initiatives, including broadening post‑school opportunities for students. This commitment has strengthened partnerships with local industry and training providers, resulting in an expanded range of pathway options for students in Years 11 and 12.
Students can now access a diverse suite of vocational courses, including Certificate II Rail Infrastructure, Certificate II Automotive Servicing, Certificate II Retail Cosmetics, Certificate III ICT, Certificate III and IV Business, and Certificate IV Nursing Preparation. Along with many other certificates offered online through SIDE RTO and other training providers.
The expansion of curriculum options has positively impacted student outcomes. Retention from Year 11 to Year 12 has increased from 56.9% to 70.4%, while overall school attendance has risen from 76% in 2023 to 79.6% in 2025.
These outcomes highlight the impact of strong collaboration between schools and industry in supporting young people. By connecting students with real‑world learning opportunities aligned to their interests, the program is strengthening their readiness for post‑school pathways and equipping them with the confidence, skills, and networks needed for future success.
