The Success Program at Hedland Senior High School, supported by the BHP Pilbara Education Partnership, continues to provide real world learning opportunities for students.
As part of the program, Year 9 and 10 students participated in structured work exploration through a series of trade tasters, including automotive, construction, electrical, and metals/engineering. These experiences provided hands‑on, industry‑aligned learning that strengthened students’ understanding of local trade pathways, industry expectations, and entry requirements. The program also supported informed subject selection and Individual Pathway Planning for Year 10 and Year 11.
Students completed rotating practical tasters such as basic hand‑tool use, safe work practices, measuring and marking, introductory wiring and fixtures, and demonstrations of MIG and spot welding. They also engaged in industry talks focused on safety standards, training pathways, and local employment opportunities.
Student reflections highlighted increased interest in trade pathways and a clearer understanding of subject choices and next steps toward future training and employment.
