Strong foundations and a rhythmic beat for success!

This semester, the new RHYTHM2RECOVERY initiative, funded by BHP, uses music to support social and emotional growth. The program's focus on a growth mindset and engaging activities has increased student achievement and fostered a positive learning environment.

At Hedland Senior High School, the Steps to Success program is building student’s Literacy and Numeracy skills, while also exploring exciting subjects like Humanities, Social Sciences, Art, Science, and Social and Emotional Learning.

The program fosters individual and group participation, with regular incursions and excursions adding a fun twist to learning.

This semester, there is a new addition to the program: RHYTHM2RECOVERY. Led by the class teacher, this innovative program uses rhythmic musical activities based on the latest neuroscience to support students’ social and emotional development. Students are actively participating and reaping the benefits, learning essential social norms and emotional skills in a fun and engaging way. The valuable funding received from BHP has allowed the purchase of the drums to engage RHYTHM2RECOVERY to take place.

The positive impact of Steps to Success is undeniable. The program’s focus on a growth mindset has empowered students to tackle challenges head-on. This, combined with the program’s targeted and engaging approach, has resulted in increased student achievement.

But it is not just about academics! The program fosters a positive learning environment, promoting student pride, morale, awareness of others, and overall well-being. The success stories in the Steps to Success classrooms are truly inspiring!
