A key objective of the Rise Up program is to enhance student engagement at school by improving individual attendance, academic achievement, leadership development, mentoring opportunities, goal-setting, and active community involvement.

This term, the Rise Up program at Newman Senior High School has undergone a revitalisation with the introduction of new staff, bringing fresh energy and ideas to the initiative. Students are now engaging more than ever, participating in a variety of recess and lunchtime activities tailored to their interests. These include craft, drawing, brain teasers, card games, photo trivia, guided meditation, and rotational sports such as netball, volleyball, AFL, and rugby—all introduced in response to student feedback.

These activities are making a tangible difference in students’ daily lives, offering them:

  • A sense of belonging during break times.
  • Opportunities to build and strengthen friendships with peers.
  • Safe, supportive spaces to explore their interests and build new skills.

Additionally, the program has positively impacted families. Increased promotion of Rise Up activities on the school’s social media platforms has drawn more families into the conversation, enabling them to see and celebrate what their children are achieving at school.

The revitalised Rise Up program is creating a vibrant, inclusive environment that helps students feel connected, valued, and inspired to thrive both academically and personally.
