Supporting Families to Prepare for School

The Early Years strategy at Baler Primary School prepares families and children for school through an Early Learning Program (ELP), which focus on school readiness, literacy, and developmental milestones.

The Early Years strategy aims to support families to be best prepared to commence school.

The on school site Early Learning Programs (ELPs) support this approach by providing an educational professional trained to specifically provide support around preparing families and children for school. The ELPs deliver activities that have a school readiness, literacy or numeracy focus, in addition to providing families with increased awareness of the early years and developmental milestones and services available for their children.

Recently Baler Primary School ELP joined the school Children’s Book Week Parade. Children who attend the ELP were encouraged to dress up in their favourite costumes and join in with the Kindy students for the book parade to start their transition to school journey.

Book week encourages the love of reading and at the Baler ELP, every session is finished with a Conversational Reading session where families and carers take time to share a book with their young children supporting connection, belonging and enjoyment in reading to become a lifelong learner.
