The Early Years team recently collaborated with Wirraka Maya Clinic and the Child and Parent Centre, both located in South Hedland, to deliver community-based clinics to promote health screening and provide opportunity for families to access health screens and immunisations in a culturally responsive environment.

Known as ‘Flourishing Families’, the clinics attracted many families who were able to meet and speak to local health care providers and other local developmental services, without the formality of a referral. Providers included a speech pathologist and occupational therapist from the Allied Health team at the Hedland Health Campus, with several referrals being initiated as a result of these discussions.
Families and children enjoyed healthy snacks and played 3a Abecedarian Approach Australia learning games in between appointments. The clinics provided a valuable opportunity to build relationships and collaborate with local services, as well as promoting developmental milestones with families.
The Flourishing Families clinics will continue throughout 2024.
