A focus of the Rise Up program is to support students to aspire to the next level, provide opportunity, and strengthen community connection.

At Newman Senior High School, the Rise Up program delivers the Duke of Edinburgh (Duke of Ed) Award which aims to foster personal and social development whilst providing students with valuable experiences, life skills, confidence and more awareness of their environment and community, supporting them to become responsible young adults.

This is a leadership opportunity for Emman, who is volunteering to complete the required level 1 Award Leader training and subsequent time to support students and promote the Duke of Ed within the school. The training will equip Emman with the knowledge to guide and mentor students, while helping them to set achievable goals.

From Emman:

“I am especially excited and proud to be a YAL. The Duke of Ed is fun, easily accessible and rewarding program for young people. Being a YAL will allow me to take on a leadership role at NSHS, outside of the student council and best of all I get to help students discover new hobbies and interests”.
