Hedland Senior High School’s Pathways program, supported by the BHP Pilbara Education Partnership, opens doors to a range of experiences that help students build confidence, explore career aspirations, and prepare for life beyond school.

One student making the most of these opportunities is Year 11 ATAR student Xyanthe, who was recently selected to participate in the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Forensics Work Experience Program in Canberra.
Through specialist lectures and hands-on activities, Xyanthe explored a variety of forensic science disciplines, including crime scene investigation and chemical criminalistics. She put her skills to the test by helping solve a simulated case before presenting evidence in a mock courtroom trial. The experience provided valuable industry insight, strengthened her passion for forensic science, and reinforced her ambition to pursue a career in this exciting and diverse field.
“The partnership between BHP and the school has helped me a lot when it comes to funding holiday revision, masterclasses and our school classes. All the educational support provided helps me achieve a better understanding of the courses I’m taking and I’m extremely grateful to have such resources”.
