A focus of the Rise Up program is to support students to aspire to the next level, provide leadership opportunities, and strengthen community connection.
To create and maintain a sense of belonging and identity for students, the program at Hedland Senior High School has established Student Leadership across Years 7 to 12, and developed School Captain and Vice Captain leadership capacity for 2024.
Student candidates recently presented their personal statement ‘what is leadership’ to their fellow peers, Grow Empower Learning (GEL) teachers, executive staff members, parents and invited guests. Students were supported by parent feedback that praised them for their bravery, commitment and passion. School staff also commended student candidates, commenting on being inspired by the students’ presentations.
Candidates had the privilege of mentorship by Town of Port Hedland Youth Development Support Officer, Troy Wood. Students are inspired by Troy’s commitment, youthful lense and professionalism.
The 2024 Student Leadership Team has been announced, with the group already meeting to develop best working practices and discuss potential projects.
