Yarning Through Story Time

‘Yarning under the tree’ is a community event supported by the Early Years Team, in collaboration with the Town of Port Hedland Library.

The initiative invites Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander local residents to select and present a book of their choosing to the community. The Partnership supports the library, by securing presenters, and providing on the ground support. The event is held each month and is funded by the Better Beginnings Innovation Grant 2023. 50 copies of the selected book are distributed to the participants for free, helping build family’s home libraries. This initiative has been met with positive and encouraging feedback from presenters, families, community members and representatives of Hedland Aboriginal Strong Leaders (HASL).
